Improving Smiles Through Gum Line Contouring

Posted on 11/8/2021 by Alyce
Improving Smiles Through Gum Line ContouringA smile that elicits confidence goes a long way. The perfect smile is, unfortunately, something no one is born with. Still, that is not to say that the smile of your dreams is only in some faraway fairy tale. While there are many aspects that make up a smile, the nature of this information involves those pesky, but essential, gums of ours.

Improving Smiles Via Contouring

Our gums hold our teeth in place by providing a bedrock foundation that allows the teeth to perform their function effectively. Unbeknownst to the gums, however, is the notion that they also make up a great cosmetic portion of our smile. For some, their gums extend too far out, and for others, too far back. Many also may experience a periodontal disease that needs prompt treatment.

The solution to this is the process of contouring the gums. Contouring the gums means shaping the gums surgically. This procedure typically involves anesthesia, typically, but we often performed it in-office in only a couple of hours. For those that need gums reduced, we remove excess gum tissue with a scalpel and shaped it to bring out that perfect smile. For those whose gums have receded, often there is the option to remove tissue from elsewhere in the mouth and use it to create new tissue where gums may have receded.

Periodontal disease is usually addressed and treated first, prior to moving on to the cosmetic aspects of contouring. Contouring actually aids as a periodontal disease treatment as it can remove infected tissue. In any case that involves removed tissue, there is a recovery period of a few days, usually no more than a week. The smile of your dreams is available despite those pesky, but essential, gums of ours. Contact our office today for more information regarding how gum contouring can dramatically radiate your smile.
